Mt.Kuromi
A front-row seat to the “Alps on the Ocean.”
Forming part of the Okudake mountains, Mt. Kuromi is famed for offering some of Yakushima’s most breathtaking views. After a steep ascent branching off the main ridgeline, an awe-inspiring panorama unfolds, revealing a sweeping view of the island’s deep interior summits.Wind races along the ridgeline, setting the fields of yakuzasa bamboo grass swaying like waves. The mountain seems to hold, just for itself, a mysterious space where the sky and earth melt into one. Here, far from the presence of people, only the wind, the light, and the land remain—sharing the silence. This is a secluded front-row seat to a heavenly realm.

- Advice
-
Compared to Mt. Miyanoura, this route requires less time and physical effort, making it a popular choice for those looking to enjoy a hike at a more relaxed pace. It is also recommended for new hikers looking to take on their first challenging route. The breathtaking views at the summit—worthy of the name “Alps on the Ocean”—offer a deep sense of accomplishment and awe at the mountain’s grandeur.Since the panoramic view from the peak is the main highlight of this hike, it is best to consider an alternative such as Mt. Tachu, which offers a similar level of difficulty, on days when clear weather is not expected. The trail crosses the tree line at around 1,700 m.
At certain times of year, sun protection is essential.
